Review: My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

My Life Next DoorAuthor: Huntley Fitzpatrick
Publisher: Dial Books For Young Readers
Number of Pages: 394

Synopsis:

"A gorgeous debut about family, friendship, first romance, and how to be true to one person you love without betraying another.
“One thing my mother never knew, and would disapprove of most of all, was that I watched the Garretts. All the time.”
The Garretts are everything the Reeds are not. Loud, numerous, messy, affectionate. And every day from her balcony perch, seventeen-year-old Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them . . . until one summer evening, Jase Garrett climbs her terrace and changes everything. As the two fall fiercely in love, Jase's family makes Samantha one of their own. Then in an instant, the bottom drops out of her world and she is suddenly faced with an impossible decision. Which perfect family will save her? Or is it time she saved herself?
A dreamy summer read, full of characters who stay with you long after the story is over."
This book is absolutely amazing! It has got to be my favorite non-paranormal book or at least my favorite. This book is so amazingly and beautifully written. It has everything that an avid reader could possibly want in a book. I have read My Life Next Door before, but I just had to buy it and if I buy it I have to read it at least once.

The characters in this book are amazing and so realistic. Jase is such a caring person. He is so forgiving too. If I went through some of the things he did I probably would have thrown some punches by now.

Alice is just so....strange? She is studying to be a nurse but doesn't seem like the type of person to care about helping people. She seems like one of those crazy rebel girls.

George. George. I freaking love him. He the cutest kid I have seen or read about. He is such a curious boy and he is so sensitive. I literally want to pluck him out of the book and kiss him and just make him my little bro. Here's some things he says in the book:

“Is Jase already gonna marry you?”
I start coughing again. “Uh, No. No, George. I’m only seventeen.” As if that’s the only reason we’re not engaged.
“I’m this many.” George holds up four, slightly grubby fingers. “But Jase is seventeen and a half. You could. Then you could live in here with him. And have a big family.”
Jase strides back into the room, of course, midway through this proposition. “George. Beat it. Discovery Channel is on.”
George backs out of the room but not before saying, “His bed’s really comfortable. And he never pees in it.”
THE KID IS SO ADORABLE!
“Did you know that in space it's very, very cold? And there's no oxygen? And if an astronaut fell out of a shuttle without his suit he'd die right away?"
I'm a fast learner. "But that would never happen. Because astronauts are really, really careful."
George gives me a smile, the same dazzling sweet smile as his big brother, although at this point, with green teeth. "I might marry you," he allows. "Do you want a big family?”
I love how he wants a family just like his parents.

Patsy is the little child of the Garrett's family. She is hilarious  he first word was "Boob". LOL or what? That kid is always trying to pull off people's shirt. Her second word was "Poop". We go from "Boob" to "Poop".

Tim. Tim is hilarious  At the beginning of the book I hated him. he was just this pathetic drug addict who lived with his parents and tormented his sister. Eventually I grow to respect him. he is so funny and is forever trying to steal Alice from her new boyfriend that she gets every few weeks. Here's a quote from him:

“Do you know how many times I've read "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" to this kid? That is one fucked up story. How is that a book for babies?”
All these characters just come to life in my mind. Fitzpatrick has made them so life like that I dream about them. Is that weird? This book is just one book I actually stuck post-it notes on my favorite parts. I have never done that before. I just love going back to this book and reading it over and over again.

I literally want to be apart of the Garrett family. They are just such a caring free family. You can be yourself and still have the people around you care so much about you. I love the big family. I want to have a big family when I'm older.

Guys, I really love this book. This book is kind of touching too. GO READ IT!

More quotes from My Life Next Door:

“Mines!” Patsy shouts, pointing at Tim. He goes to her, rumples her scanty hair.“See, hot Alice? Even the very young feel the pull of my magnetism. It’s like an irresistible urge, a force like gravity, or—”“Poop!”
“I like eggs and bacon," George tells me. "But" - his face clouds - "do you know that bacon is" - tears leap to his eyes - "Wilbur?”
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars!!
